Conceived by alumni and undertaken as a cooperative effort among alumni, faculty, and administrators, the first ever Reunion and 30 Year Commemoration of the Transportation Systems Engineering and Logistics Program at Penn was a tremendous success. The enthusiastic response and participation of nearly half of the alumni who were contacted is testimony to both the quality of Penn's Program and the individuals who have comprised the Program since its creation 30 years ago in 1967. This was also an occasion for faculty and alumni to mutually recognize each other's professional accomplishments.

The "TSE 30 Reunion" marked 30 years since the Transportation Systems Engineering Program was initiated in January 1967 in the Department of Civil, later Systems, Engineering. Following several months of planning, the Reunion took place in Philadelphia on 9-10 May 1997. The Reunion opening, technical sessions and discussions were held on the Penn campus; social events took place at other locations in the Philadelphia area.

The TSE 30 Reunion was a two-day event consisting of introductions, technical sessions, a gala dinner, planning of Penn-alumni cooperation, field trips and social events which culminated with a party at Dr. Vuchic's residence.

In the interest of strengthening the ties between alumni and the University and capitalizing on the energy and interest sparked by this event, the TSE 30 Organizing Committee reconvened following the TSE 30 event. A formal Alumni Organization has been formed, Transportation Systems Engineering Alumni Club (TSEAC), and the Committee has been proceeding with activities centered on the Transportation Systems Engineering and Logistics Program. The goal is tocontinuosly develop an alumni network to maintain and strengthen contacts between the Transportation Program and its alumni.
