Program: On May 15, 2000, members of TSEAC gathered at the Gold Standard restaurant on the Penn campus. Attendees included Penn faculty, as well as members of both the public and private sectors of the transportation industry. Following a social hour and dinner, the group was treated to presentations by current students of Dr. Vuchic's undergraduate class, Transportation Systems (SYS 352). The presenters included the following members of the Class of 2001: Michael McGuire, Tricia Houle, and Leonne Tanis.

McGuire's presentation, “Improving the Intersection of Palmers Mill Road (S.R. 252) and Providence Road,” included an analysis of the current intersection configuration, noting serious capacity and safety shortfalls with the existing design. He proposed three intersection redesign alternatives, based on traffic volumes provided by PennDOT and those he personally counted.

Houle and Tanis' presentation, “LUCY (Loop through University City),” reviewed current service patterns of the local bus route, noting a capacity deficiency during peak hours. To mitigate this deficiency, the presenters suggested express routes to supplement existing routes. The results would be higher capacity, shorter headways, and no new investment costs. The presenters showed possible schedules for the suggested routes via time-distance diagrams. Other operational improvements were also discussed.
